Course overview
Course description
During this course you will be encouraged to explore your creative interests and art practices by scaling up your new artistic experiments in larger formats. The focus will also be on the use of colour in your work. You will make a colour wheel and learn about colour theory and how to use the language of colour. Primary, secondary and complimentary colours will be mixed with black and white to give tints, tones and shades of different hues to make swatches. You will also look at the work of different artists to consider temperature in artwork, how warm and cool colours can evoke moods and feelings and how warm and cool colours can create depth instead of using perspective.
As the term progresses you will use the language of art to evaluate your artwork, so that you are more fully able to talk about your artistic inspirations and ideas. You will visit RAMM museum and Exeter Phoenix Galleries to view contemporary and classical art to broaden your creative outlook. The Studio Practice Drawing Painting and Going Big! class will take place in a light and airy studio that is a welcoming and safe space to all learners, where support and connection with others is central to producing an atmosphere of calm creativity.
