Course overview
Course description
What do other countries traditionally eat for Christmas dinner, why (a good question for the non-Christian ones), and is any of it something we鈥檇 like to borrow? The Americans, for instance, have already had their Turkey Day, so have a different meat (or two, or three). Japan seems to have been the victim of an American marketing campaign. Quite a lot of Catholic countries have a fish spectacle on Christmas Eve. And why would anyone鈥檚 traditional Christmas dinner be a Chinese takeaway?
We鈥檒l also have a look at French cakes, which are very different to our own, and German gingerbreads.
No recipes this time, but possibly a list of places to buy the more interesting ingredients.
If you like the sound of this, my talk on 鈥淐hristmas Food Through the Ages鈥 may also be of interest, as may 鈥淭he 12 lunches of Christmas鈥, and 鈥淐hristmas dinner 鈥 what, where and why鈥
