Course overview
Course description
This short series of talks will cover four topics that relate to the process of changes Britain went through in the decade 1914-24. There will be four sessions that cover four areas that are interrelated. Firstly, we will look at the reasons Britain went to war in 1914 . Then we will explore the consequences of the war in relation to British society, politics, and the economy. The Easter Rising of 1916 will allow us to explore the complex relationship that Britain has had with Ireland. The final session will focus on the 1923 election and the subsequent first Labour government of 1924. No prior knowledge of subjects is expected and hopefully there will be plenty of questions that will provide opportunities to discuss issues raised in the complex but fascinating period of British history.
